Back in 1919, my dad owned his own drug store in Toronto, Canada. In those days, pharmacists would often make their own medicines. (it was called "compounding").
Dad's customers were looking for a cough remedy so they asked him to come up with one. Dad gave it a lot of thought, and after a great deal of trial and error, he came up with Buckley's Mixture. It was a big hit in the neighborhood, because it was sugar-free, alcohol-free and it wouldn't make you sleepy. The one problem Dad found was Buckley's unique taste. Dad described it as "brisk," but to be real honest, it tastes real bad.
Today, millions of Canadians rely on Buckley's Mixture. And if anybody knows about coughs and colds, it's Canadians. So if you have a nagging cough due to a cold, give Buckley's Mixture a try. If you're not completely satisfied, I'll give you your money back.
Just remember two things about Buckley's Mixture. "It tastes awful. And it works."
~ Frank Buckley.
Yep, it tastes pretty bad. We found this product when we lived in Ontario and have used it ever since. I think the Canadians are trying to get back at us for something!
But -- it DOES work! Just like the ad says.
One more sneak advantage we have found as parents. When your children agree to a spoonful of Buckley's you know they are sick! No fake days off of school ... our kids would rather go take a math test than a spoonful of Buckley's! But they, too, have learned: when your throat hurts, or if you are coughing, gasp your way through spoonful of Buckley's and look forward to a few hours of relief.

I became a fan of Buckleys Mixture when I lived abroad, and it was the most readily available cough product. At first I was stunned by the experience, but it works. It works like nothing else in the world! When you feel really terrible, who cares what Buckleys tastes like? You want results! I keep a few extra bottles around at all times.
